Junior Browns tredje CD er ute, og fortsetter i samme spor som de to forrige. Flertallet av låtene er raske two step Honky Tonk låter, med tekster som fortsatt er preget av Juniors umiskjennelige sans for ordspill. I Joe The Singing Janitor, får vi møte nok en av hverdagsheltene som det finnes så mange av i country, men her er det gjort med en humoristisk vri. Joe kan nemlig ikke synge, men han er stolt av jobben han gjør som vaktmester. "I can't carry a note in a bucket, but I carry that bucket with pride." Ellers byr Gotta Get Up Every Morning ("just to say goodnight to you") og Venom Wearing Denim på Junior Brown slik vi kjenner ham. Men det ville ikke være Junior Brown hvis han ikke også tok en omvei i andre musikalske farvann. Og denne gangen er det en sju minutter lang surf medley (Pipeline, Walk Don't Run og Secret Agent Man) samt en småkinesisk Honk Kong Man som står for avstikkerne. Og en trucker låt er selvfølgelig også med, Semi Crazy i duett med Red Simpson.
En rekke av låtene på denne plata har stått på Junior Browns live repertoar siden før han fikk kontrakt med Curb. Og det kan være fristende å si at med bare 10 låter, og kanskje også et noe svakere materiale enn på de to forrige, tyder det på at det bare har vært snakk om å gi ut de låtene som ikke kom med tidligere. Det betyr ikke at dette er spesielt dårligere enn de to forrige, men tilsvarende høydepunkter som vi er vant til, får vi ikke denne gangen. Derimot kan det bli spennende å se hva som kommer neste gang, for nå må Junior til å skrive nye låter. Så vidt jeg kan skjønne har han nå gitt ut alt som har stått på live repertoaret hittil. Et par hakk under vanlig Junior standard denne gang altså, men like fullt en bra CD.

Junior Brown's third CD is now available, and it follows in the same track as the two previous ones. The majority of the songs are fast two-step Honky Tonk songs and the lyrics are as always marked by Junior's play with words. The everyday hero is well known in Country music, maybe most often as a trucker. In Joe The Singing Janitor we are introduced to an everyday hero with a humorous touch. Joe can't sing, but he is proud of the job he does as a janitor. "I can't carry a note in a bucket, but I carry that bucket with pride." Other songs, like Gotta Get Up Every Morning ("just to say goodnight to you") and Venom Wearing Denim, give us Junior Brown the way we know him. But this wouldn't be Junior Brown if we didn't also find him sailing other musical waters. This time he gives us a seven minutes long surf medley (Pipeline, Walk Don't Run and Secret Agent Man) as well as the slightly Chinese sounding Honk Kong Man. Of course there's also a trucker song in the mix, Semi Crazy featuring none other than Red Simpson.
Many if not most of the songs on this record have been on Junior Brown's live repertoire ever since he got his contract with Curb. This, and the fact that there are only 10 cuts and maybe also somewhat weaker songs on this CD than the previous two, might indicate that these songs are the ones that didn't make it the first time around. This does not mean that the CD is really inferior, but the highlights we have come to expect are not present this time. But this also means that it will be exciting to see what Junior comes up with on his next album. As far as I know he has now recorded and released most of the songs that have been featured on his live shows, which means he has to write new material, and that should be worth waiting for.
